Vans are also going electric

If you’re looking for a lightweight electric utility vehicle, you’ll find plenty of choice. Historical manufacturers of this type of vehicle have adapted to the market. You will find several models comparable to their ICE counterparts, even if some have been announced but not yet on the market. 

What you’re looking for: space! No problem as the batteries do not affect the load volumes. The impact is different for the permissible loads, but the extra weight of the batteries is often compensated for by increased damping. Finally, the loading capacity criterion is not a barrier.

Is your business area generally limited to your province? If so, the range of an electric van will be sufficient. Ranges announced before recharging are between 130 and 350km in normal use. It's a good idea to count on just 75% of the declared distance so as not to be caught short. Parking or a lunch break with the van on charge will be welcome if you need to travel farther.

Ask your accountant to help you with this purchase because the invoice will be significantly higher for buying an electric van. If you compare the prices of the basic models, you will see that they are higher compared to an ICE van. But this comparison should be qualified because the level of equipment is often more important on an electric vehicle. By its nature, the transmission is not unlike an automatic gearbox and driving aids are often part of the basic equipment. 

The tax system for light commercial vehicles is often mentioned, which also appeals to private individuals. In fact, you avoid the registration tax and benefit from road tax limited to €148 at most for a 3.5T vehicle. Here, the taxation system for electric vehicles is best. If the financial benefits are not the motivating factor for this purchase, the environmental aspect will be decisive, in particular for access to LEZs. You will also save money on fuel.

The electrification of these small vans started slowly, but today manufacturers offer an extensive range. The Motor Show will be a good time for you to discover and compare them.
