Hearing the sound of a sports car can be a pleasure especially when, once you see it, the pure lines of the beautiful sound confirm the enchantment in your ears. But environmental requirements are changing things. Not always fairly and not always everywhere. But in Europe, the choice has been made to fit these prestigious cars with electric motors.

An evolution

The search for power has, for many years, been the focus for high-performance sports cars. Exclusivity has also driven elegance towards a design close to a work of art. Hybridisation has been around for many years. Formula 1 has been complementing internal combustion engines with electric motors since 2011 and the competition is still fierce. A completely electric motor racing category was launched in 2014 – Formula E. On our roads, prestigious makes are also electrifying and the dream continues. Manufacturers face new challenges and standards.

The future

If you are passionate about beautiful engineering, you would probably have preferred less radical choices and waited for the emergence of new 'green' fuels. Knowing that the best GTs will no longer make any noise is perhaps a real despair. But did you know that some manufacturers are already giving their cars sound by using a loudspeaker to replace the real sound of the engine? The same goes for these legendary cars, which roar like a splendid V8 petrol although the driver fills them up with diesel.

The renaissance of iconic brands and models in electric power has been promised. MG is back with several models. Opel has retrofitted the Manta as a concept car, which didn't go unnoticed. Renault is promising an already highly anticipated electric R5. What these cars have in common is the impatience they create, the desire to discover and comment on them.

When it comes to exceptional cars, let's not doubt that design prodigies will succeed in creating desirable cars. Porsche has played its hand with the 100% electric Taycan model. Ferrari has launched its hybrid 296 GTB. Others like Bugatti will electrify their hypercars before going to full electrification.

The world is changing and the automotive industry has to reinvent itself once again. Perhaps performance will also be limited, but the potential is there and the dream can continue.
